Collaborative Play Making
@ P.S. 130
Program Overview
Welcome to Hook & Eye’s after school collaborative playmaking program! We will all work together to make an original piece of theater. Students will work individually, in pairs, and in groups to brainstorm and write a brand-new play. They’ll draw from their interests and imaginations, creating a story that’s uniquely theirs. Once the play is written, the real fun begins! Students will collaborate to design sets, costumes, and props, bringing their story to life. They will also rehearse their roles, learning the importance of teamwork and communication. At the end of the semester, students will share their work with family and friends. This sharing event is a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase their hard work, creativity, and newfound skills.

Who & How We Do
Facilitator: Meghan Grover
Meghan Grover (she/they), a performance artist and educator has been working with Hook & Eye since 2018. Meghan holds a MA in Applied Theater, City University of New York and a BFA in Acting, University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater. For the past ten years, Meghan has been creating theater experiences where young people take the lead to express themselves and collaborate to make art that captures what they want to say about the world. Meghan uses a variety of sources– inspired by each particular group of young people– to devise theater. Meghan will facilitate and direct Hook & Eye’s Collaborative Playmaking Program that will lead to student-devised theatrical sharing at the end of the workshop or residency.
Hook & Eye Theater
Hook & Eye Theater, based in Brooklyn, NY, mines themes from history, science, and myths, using radical collaboration to devise new plays. We blend incongruent source materials to disrupt the everyday, inventing uncommon relationships, blending genres, and crafting multigenerational stories that offer audiences visceral experiences moving through their heart, head, and civic spaces.
Hook & Eye has been creating theater with young people for the past decade. Our company members have extensive experience as Teaching Artists in NYC public schools, developing workshops, residencies, and comprehensive curricula for all ages.
