Press/Media

a specific, uncomfortable, and very personal tale with a ton of heart.
The ensemble of The Summoners works like a machine. They build a story out of wooden crates, abstract sequences of movement and text, and carefully crafted realistic scenes. It’s a complex production summoned (that’s right) from a purposefully minimalist design: the crates and other expressionistic set pieces stay onstage and we see actors move them around, like puzzle pieces, between vignettes. Similarly, the multimedia elements of the play are used judiciously and specifically.
Hook and Eye’s production of The Summoners is a truly original piece and has some wonderful new ideas
The Summoners is a good example of a theatre company taking risks and creating a piece that is wholly original, and therefore, worth seeing.
